New restaurant slated for John Wayne Marina Sequim -
A new restaurant offering "casual fine dining" is slated to open in August at John Wayne Marina - without food service for more than 14 months. The Dockside Grill would provide lunch, dinner and catering, said Steve Little, former Xanadu Grill owner east of Sequim, to Port of Port Angeles commissioners on Monday. The port controls the marina and onshore buildings.
"I'd like to thank the commissioners for reviewing and accepting our proposal. I look forward to serving customers who followed me since Xanadu Grill," Little said. Port commissioners unanimously approved a lease for the new business at their meeting Monday.
"I'm really glad to finally see it occupied, especially by someone who can run a quality restaurant," said Port Commissioner George Schoenfeldt. Pat Deja, the port's industrial development and properties manager, said Little has asked the port to enclose the outside deck area and open up the harbormaster's office to create additional seating.
The remodeling would almost double the dining area to 828 square feet, he said. Deja said remodeling also could be done at the same time as other upgrades required for the 20-year-old space.
The remodeling costs are estimated between $30,000 and $50,000, which can be taken from funding for roof repairs that won't get done this year, he said. Port Executive Director Bob McChesney said the port staff conducted a long search for a tenant for John Wayne Marina.
"It turns out the answer was right in our back yard," he said.
